SFSU Communications Directory

The Division of Information Technology at San Francisco State University has made the executive decision to stop printing the annual Communications Directory, starting during the 2005-2006 school year. As staff members at the University, you may have already noticed the directory has not been delivered, without any explanation as to why. According to DoIT, they are working on creating an online version of the directory.











We, the undersigned, feel that the loss of a printed Communications Directory is a devastating loss. The directory is a tool we use on a daily basis. It provides an instant connection to the rest of the University employees, but it does more than that. It provides TTY instructions, voicemail user’s guide, a voicemail flowchart, and six different types of listings: Campus Administration, Campus Offices, Campus Fax Numbers, Faculty and Staff, Departmental, and a California State University listing. These listings are vital to smooth operations in all campus departments.











For example: An employee can need the phone number of the person in charge of OneCard, and can use the directory to look up the Cashier’s Office under the Departmental listing. From the names listed there, the employee can look them up in the Faculty and Staff listings, and make the best decision as to who to contact regarding OneCard. This would be impossible using the online directory.











We ask that the Division of Information Technology reconsider their decision and start printing the Communications Directory.
