Good Jobs and Clean Energy for All Stauntonians

To:  Staunton City Council

Staunton has three key needs right now: to create good jobs for all our residents; to help families and businesses control volatile and rising energy costs; and to contribute to the fight against global warming, the greatest problem facing world civilization today.

We the undersigned ask Staunton City Council to appoint a Citizens Task Force to develop a “green plan” for our city. The plan would chart a course for Staunton to reach two goals by the year 2020: 1) to get 20\% of its energy from clean, local sources and 2) to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 20\%. Building the plan would be the work of citizens, businesses, and government over a 12-18 months of public hearings, research, dialogue, and citizen input.

Once developed, we further ask City Council to approve the plan and take all measures to put it into law.
