Good Jobs and Clean Energy for All Stauntonians

To:  Staunton City Council

Staunton has three key needs right now: to create good jobs for all our residents; to help families and businesses control volatile and rising energy costs; and to contribute to the fight against global warming, the greatest problem facing world civilization today.

We ask Staunton City Council to appoint a Citizens Task Force to develop a “green plan” for our city. The plan would chart a course for Staunton to reach two goals by the year 2020: 1) to get 20% of its energy from clean, local sources and 2) to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. Building the plan would be the work of citizens, businesses, and government officials over a period of about a year of public hearings, research, dialogue, and citizen input.

Once developed, we further ask City Council, working with the Green Plan Task Force, to approve the plan and take all measures to put it into law.
