To:  The Governor of West Bengal

To
His Excellency
The Governor of West Bengal
Raj Bhawan
Kolkata

Dear Sir,

We express our serious concern against the move taken by the
state of West Bengal to dislodge farmers from the
rightful possesion of and earning from their multi-crop
lands at Singur. We believe that it is not
for the best interests for the farmers of the locality in particular and
people of the State of West Bengal in general.

No government should dislodge people from their
rightful legal earnings, especially when there has been no assurance from
the part of the government that all the affected people or the dependent
of the farmers shall be absorbed in the proposed Tata Small Car Project as
employee, which, we understand is impossible. In the given situation, we do
not find any compelling reason in favour of the government which would justify
such acquisition. Moreover, even if some of the oweners agree to submit to the
goverment pressure or to the offer of compensation, we feel such destruction
of multi-crop lands for the construction of such company should not be
allowed.

We are in favour of industrialization but not at the cost of the
multi-crop lands and the farmers. We believe that it is the
primary duty and responsibility of the government to ensure development
through proper planning for which procurement of agricultural crops and its
subsidised distribution is the basis. This will lead to an
enhancement of purchasing power of the farmers, small landowners, daily
labourers alike, enabling them to participate in the local economy which
would eventually pave the way for development from below.
The much publicised "globalization (!)", an imperialist design as has already
been established, can only benefit the developed nations and a class of nouveau
riche (new rich) at the cost of the rest of the world.
Unplanned and unscrupulous industrialisation like the present venture at
Singur is a paleolithic (trickle down) scheme which will only serve to
chaotically widen the already prevalent gulf of economic disparity and goes
against the socialistic spirit of the Indian Constitution.

In opposition to the current anti-national, agrresive dictatorial
move at Singur,

Faithfully yours

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
