Time to Abandon the United Nations |
To: The United NationsTo the United Nations Secratary General, Ban Ki-Moon.
The United Nations has become a disgrace to the basic principles of freedom, equality and justice for all. As a mediator for conflict, the UN is sluggish, ineffective and weak (Rwanda, Darfur, Congo, etc). And offending member nations have been allowed to flout UN resolutions with little or no meaningful consequences (Iran, Iraq, Darfur).
A number of UN member states are currently in breach of the United Nations charter by allowing the continuation of Sharia law. In failing to confront these nations the UN is condoning breaches of women’s rights, religious freedoms and many other natural human rights. The UN is supposed to defend and promote such freedoms and yet it has failed even to draw these matters to the attention of the member states concerned.
The United States funds 22% of the $423,464,855 budget (2006 figure: source: http://www.unausa.org); and yet the UN has become a palpably anti-American organization where US, western and democratic interests are routinely rejected. In our opinion, the UN is no longer a neutral forum for countries seeking to maintain and promote democracy and freedom. It is and overwhelming failure from which all democratic nations, including the United States, should withdraw membership and funding.
We believe the UN should be disbanded in favour of a smaller organization, open to fewer members but with a more cohesive, democracy-led agenda.
Sincerely,
