Waiting in the Cold

To:  Saint Joseph Elementary School

Dear Saint Joseph School board members:
To make a long story short, some think it is unfair that the kindergarteners and the first graders get to wait inside while the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders are forced to stay outside in the freezing cold during the wintertime. As a result, we have signed the following petition so we may have these rights as well. Our resone are:
1. We still bundle up in preparation of the cold weather, but it is still freezing cold, especially for the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth graders, because our side of the building is in shadow, so it is colder for us even though it is upposed to be a warm morning.
2. Why shouldn't the younger children wait outside with us as well? We are reduced to taking overlong trips to the bathroom to savor our time in the warm air in the chilly mornings. Anyway, the younger kids play outside all the time in the same temperatures as the morning in the afternoon, so what difference does it make? The playing part is what brings us to our next point.
3. The outdoor winter weather is perfect for throwing snowballs, so why not let us have fun with the snow? There is absolutely no reason that we should not be able to play with the snowballs. The temptation would be lowered by a lot if we were allowed to spend the mornings inside.
Basically, what we are trying to say is that it is unfair for us to wait outside freezing our rear ends off while the youngsters are inside staying warm. If they have the right to stay inside and keep warm, why shouldn't we? Why are we expected to withstand the temperatures? If we are required to tolerate the freezing cold at all, it should be in extracurricular form involving arctic exploration.

Please give our terms some thought, and please do not try to move those in the cooler side of the building to the other and please do not try to move the younger children outside because we strictly want to move indoors to keep warm. We are not complaining like babies. We mean business, and we mean warmth!
