Superman Reboot: The Fans Open Letter to Warner Bros |
To: Alan Horn, Barry Meyer, Jeff Robinov, Warner Bros Studios, DC Comcs, Superhype.com, imdb.comWe, the fans of Superman comics, lore, and history, have concerns regarding the next “Superman” movie. With the recent news that the “Man of Steel” movie has been canceled, some issues should be addressed.
First of all, the entire Superman franchise can benefit from a complete overhaul or reboot. We must, however, stay true to the soul of Superman. We do not want to see executives editing the script to maximize profits. Yes, movies are products and investors want to see profits grow from their products. This is SUPERMAN! He’s the premiere comic book superhero! If you make a quality movie you WILL make money! LOTS of money! Take “Superman Returns” for example; an excellent movie on its own merit, though a disingenuous “Superman” movie.
We would like to see a Superman movie where comic book writers and fans are at least consultants on the film if not the actual writers. The executives should let the artists do their job!
With regards to the cast, dump EVERYONE except for Brandon Routh. If it is not possible to keep Brandon through that drastic of a change, we understand. But he did a wonderful job and has phenomenal potential as the Man of Steel! Kate Bosworth, however, is NOT Lois Lane. Please do not insult us by putting her in a role that she does not suit. This is not a sleight on her ability. She simply is not convincing as Lois Lane.
Lex Luthor should NOT be the villain in the next movie! I think that, after five major movies, we’re ready to see a new adversary. Brainiac or even Bizarro! If Luthor MUST be in it, let it be as a means to tie loose ends. As for the Superkid… Let’s just pretend that he was a bad dream. Write him out or just move on. Please do not continue the story with Superman being some deadbeat father.
In closing, please remember that Superman stands for “Truth, Justice, and the AMERICAN WAY”. Please do not sweep this away for the sake of political correctness. We all know for what he stands. We all know where he hangs his cape. America is his home. Please have faith in your creative staff – hire the right people and they will create quality material. Have faith in your product – there’s a reason he’s been around for over 75 years. Have faith in your fans – Superman is a part of us all. We will not let him fail.
We thank you for your time and consideration by signing this petition.Sincerely,
