Bring Danny Elfman back for 2008's "The Simpsons: The Motion Picture"

As everybody probably knows by now,

There is a highly anticipated motion picture version of The Simpsons that is scheduled to premiere some time in 2008. The Simpsons, a cultural phenomenon for almost twenty years, is popular all over the world because of many elements that still work even today: memorable characters, clever writing and -- lastly -- classic music. Danny Elfman, an already hugely successful film composer and song-writer, wrote one of the most memorable themes in television history for the show, something that you could hum in Japan or Pakistan and get an instant reaction to.

Now that the big screen adaptation is set to be made, the assumption would be of course that Matt Groening and James L. Brooks would bring Elfman back to revisit what he first wrote seventeen years ago, even allowing him to add more to the show's rich legacy. So, with out saying, it obviously came as quite a shock that composer Hans Zimmer was picked as front runner for scoring the picture.

Make no mistake, Hans Zimmer is a wonderful composer -- an Academy Award winner, in fact -- but the public has it's preferences on certain things, and when it comes to the world of The Simpsons, Danny Elfman's music will always be the favorite.

Thankfully nothing's been made official yet and no composer's been signed, so there is still time to try swinging some influence by number, thus this petition has been written out. It comes down to this: If you've enjoyed the Simpsons' music in the past (some of you even grew up on it), please show your support for a future score written by nobody other than the man who created it in the first place, Danny Elfman. After enough signatures are collected, this will be mailed to Richard Kraft (Danny Elfman's agent), Twentieth Century Fox and Matt Groening. Hopefully that will be enough of a message.
