In Canada there are 15 suicides per 100,000 youth. Suicide has become the 3rd leading cause of death in youth aged 15-24 in Canada. While, it is very preventable, many youth dont know who to turn to or what to do in times of crisis.
With the stress of studies, social life, family, employment, finances, and many other stresses, students find themselves facing an unbearable situation. These students may feel that suicide is the only way out.
It is time for schools to start raising awareness on the subject of suicide. The stigma surrounding suicide continues to grow as big as the suicide rate itself: ignoring the issue won't make it go away.
Sign today to let schools across Canada know that suicide is preventable and that its time to help students see that there are other options available. Students need to be aware of the resources and support available to them, both by the college and the community!
