Sprint PCS: Offer Customer-Initiated PRL Updates

We, as informed customers of Sprint PCS see a glaring issue with the service Sprint provides, and that is the inability to do PRL updates without having to have our accounts manually flagged.

This problem is compounded by the unawareness of many Sprint customer service representatives as to even what a PRL is, causing as long as 30 minutes to reach a representative that can perform the simple task of flagging an account manually. This is frustrating to customers, and costs Sprint money needlessly. Furthermore, informed customers have to jump through unnecessary hoops to help their friends and family that also has Sprint to improve their service.

Customer service representatives have also been misinformed by Sprint, telling customers to call customer service and say the words "PRL Update" to the automated receptionist, as they have been told that this will automatically flag the number for a PRL update. If this worked as they had been told, this petition would not be necessary, however, saying "PRL Update" to the automated receptionist forwards you to a live customer service representative every time.

All other carriers in the United States that use the CDMA platform have a user-initiated version of this process, through the *228 number. This includes Verizon Wireless, Qwest (which now uses Sprint's network, yet Sprint customers are not offered the same service), Alltel, and US Cellular. However, for some reason that Sprint refuses to explain, Sprint does not offer this service. We ask that Sprint provide some way for customers to initiate a PRL Update for their handsets on their own.
