In the past few years the traffic issue on I-376 had brought the roadway to a near non-useable status. The expanding population in the East suburbs and the Squirrel Hill tunnel are the primary factors for the traffic delays. PENNDOT engineers and politicians refuse to find a solution to bypass the tunnel. The tunnel should be turned into a parking garage to generate revenue (because it pretty much is a parking garage now...traffic does not move.) A new Highway should be built around or over the existing highway in that area. Tell PENNDOT and your elected officals you are tired of wasting your valuable time and money sitting in traffic on a roadway that cannot handle the traffic volume it sees everday. A prime example of the inefficiency of the roadway is the tractor-trailer fire on 6/22/09 that casued outbound traffic to be at a stand still for over 3 hours. Another example is the unfortuante death of a pedestrian in that area in June 2009. This tunnel should be eliminated and alternate methods should be proposed. Don't continue to feed the tunnel monster.
