Free the Accounts of the Kanchi Shankara Matam and Prevent its Unconstitutional Takeover |
To: President and Prime Minister of IndiaFree the Accounts of the Kanchi Shankara Matam and Prevent its Unconstitutional Takeover
To: Hon. President and Prime Minister of India
Dear Respected Sirs,
We, the undersigned, appeal to you to intervene immediately to: 1) Cancel the freeze placed by the Tamil Nadu Government on the bank accounts of the Kanchi Kamakoti Matam; 2) Prevent the unconstitutional takeover of the Institution by the TN Chief Minister.
The Matam is rapidly running out of funds even to meet daily expenses. Within days its institutions won’t have money to pay salaries. All the charities run by the Matam will come to a grinding halt. It is the poor people receiving medical help, education, and food and shelter in old age homes that will suffer. Hoping to cripple the Matam, the TN Government is actually hitting the common man.
The prestige of India will suffer when the news is broadcast abroad that a hallowed 2500-year-old institution catering to the poorer members of society has been unconstitutionally violated and thoroughly deprived of funds. The highest authorities must step in to protect the interests of the common man and the country.
It is vitally important to free the Matam’s accounts immediately and take a clear stand against any attempt at takeover.
Sincerely,
