Save the Sharks |
To: Restaurant Owners and All Who Read the PetitionSharks’ fins are cut off the sharks, often when they are still alive. Their mutilated bodies are thrown back into the sea, where they die in agony – they drown, get eaten alive by other sea creatures, or bleed to death.
Singapore is the world's third largest sharks’ fin trading center, after Hong Kong and Taiwan, according to UN's Food and Agriculture Organization. (Credits: CNN.com,“Sharks fin-ished in Singapore”, 2001)
According to Shark Foundation Hai-Stiftung (the foundation we support, please visit: http://www.shark.ch/), each year, more than 600,000 to 700,000 tons of sharks are caught and slaughtered. This is the equivalent to more than 100 million sharks killed per year. In order words, 3 sharks die every second.
Many shark species are endangered - some are even on the verge of EXTINCTION!
We hereby pledge our support to Shark Foundation Hai-Stiftung (http://www.shark.ch/) and its efforts in saving the sharks, and will strive to refrain from selling/consuming shark products.
By taking a small step each – choosing not to consume shark products (e.g. refraining from serving shark's fin soup during wedding feasts or other meals in the future), switching to alternatives, taking shark’s fin soup off your restaurant menu and passing this message to all the people you know and urging them to sign this petition........ Together we may make a difference!!!
Sincerely,
