State Regulation of Psychotherapy and Counselling in the UK

Inspired by the success of the petition, a group of practitioners have now launched The Alliance for Counselling and Psychotherapy, with the strapline 'Against State Regulation'. We are holding our second conference in London on October 11th, on the theme of principled non-compliance with HPC regulation. And a bit of housekeeping: we are of course aware that some people have accidentally signed the petition more than once. We estimate that the true total is no more than 50 below the number that appears; and we are preparing an accurate clean copy of actual signatories.

We the undersigned psychotherapists and counsellors doubt that the proposed state regulation of psychotherapy and counselling in the UK will be of benefit either to the public or to the profession, and are concerned that it will in fact be harmful; we do not wish to be regulated in this way, and and call upon the Government and the leadership of our professions to halt the process and think again.
