I live in a neighborhood in Lenasia and the Islamic community has mosques around the area. These mosques are equipped with a loud PA system that goes off five times a day with the Azaan (Moslem prayer) that is read. The morning one goes off at + - 5am and is really loud. Awakening the entire neighborhood at this early hour on a daily bases including weekends and public holidays. This is totally unacceptable and inconsiderate to people that live in the area. I have logged a call on the City of Joburg website and have not received and reply. I do have a strong belief in people practicing their religion but, this is an extreme irritation hearing the Azaan screamed on the PA system five times a day everyday. I have the utmost respect for all religions, but this has become really annoying.
Moslems in Emmarentia suburb in Johannesburg has adapted the azaan issue and easily solved: every home has a transmitter and receives the call from the mosque via their transmitters. Why cant this be adopted around the country? Why must the all the communities hear this? Sign this petition so that we can get all mosques getting their message out to their followers via a transmitter in their homes and not disturbing our once peaceful neighborhoods?
