We, the undersigned, request that the educational institutions, universities and academic organizations of the United States of America create and offer a recognized and accredited curriculum in the field of paranormal studies which would allow for the bestowal of the Doctorate degree in the field of Parapsychology in graduate studies and the degree of Bachelor of Science in undergraduate studies for Paranormal Investigator. In order to further this endeavor, we also request that such institutions establish department chairs for the field of Parapsychology.
We believe that the application of the scientific method, the establishment of a standard curriculum, studies, and practices that are accepted and accredited by the academic community will facilitate the inquiry into one of the most persistent, least understood, and most interesting phenomena in human experience, a phenomena that has never fully had adequate funding for study or support in the scientific community.
We understand that paranormal research and parapsychology are of paramount importance to understanding the human condition and that study in such fields involves training and knowledge in multiple disciplines such as anthropology, psychology, physics, mythology, folklore, geology, astronomy, and associated disciplines.
We believe that, while substantial anecdotal evidence has been collected to establish academic studies in the field of the paranormal that without standardized curriculums, practices, and methodology vast amounts of potential evidence is being ignored due to a lack of licensed practitioners in the field and a lack of community to review this evidence in a standard scientific environment.
We strongly urge that studies in the field of parapsychology and paranormal research be supported by the educational community in order to assist in the scientific examination of a significant part of the human experience which is currently being ignored by academic institutions.
