Jacksonville Beach Pier 300ft.Surfing Ban |
To: Jacksonville Beach City CouncilJacksonville Beach Pier 300ft.Surfing Ban
In the last two months alone, fishermen’s lines have been deliberately cut, accidentally entangled, and entire rigs (rod, reel, hook, line, and sinker) deliberately pulled over the rail buy surfers, and lost. This is approximately a $300.00 investment.
Most fishermen can’t cast over 300 feet from the pier. A 300-foot no surfing zone surrounding the pier would eliminate the possibility of any of these acts re-occuring, providing it’s enforced. The ordinance is already on the books but it is just not being enforced.
The pier was built to generate revenue for the City from Tourists and Fishermen.
If the Street Address of the already established ordinance is corrected, and Law Enforcement Officers are asked to address this growing problem, we can peacefully co exist.
Last week an altercation between a surfer and a pier angler ensued on the pier. Fisticuffs took place, and the surfer was injured. This could easily escalate into a more serious encounter with mortal implications.
The signed supporters of this petition in conjunction with JacksonvilleBeachPier.com implore you to correct and strictly enforce this ordinance (that has been on the books for over five years), before things reach that level of violence.
Sincerely,
