Rename Earth |
To: International Astronomical UnionOur universe is seemingly endless, and it is filled with wonder. The size of our own galaxy is almost unfathomable. On our planet, it's up to the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to name the celestial objects within our universe. In our solar system, almost all the planets are named after Greco-Roman gods and goddesses. The only planet that isn't, is our own. Earth is an ancient term that simply means the ground, or dirt. This name was adopted before people began thinking of Earth as a planet. Out of all these planets, why is ours the only one without an honorable title? Our world should be the most important one in our solar system, because we live on it. Therefore, I propose a renaming. The Greeks once called the earth Tellus Mater, which means Mother Earth. So, I propose that we call our beloved planet Tellus. It's our home world, I think that makes it important enough to have an honorable name.
Sincerely,
