PRESERVE NAPARIMA BOWL AS A CENTRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

We appeal to the Prime Minister, the Minister / Ministry / of Arts and Mulitculturalism and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to reconsider its plan to use Naparima Bowl as a training centre for doctors and nurses.

The proposed plan is appalling and unacceptable! We MUST preserve The Bowl as a centre for the Performing Arts! That is, was and should always be the primary purpose of Naparima Bowl. It is the heart of the Arts in San Fernando and the South.

Naparima Bowl is in great demand, with bookings needed to be made almost a year in advance. The facility has the best acoustics in the country. It is affordable and accessible to both professionals and amateurs. Many of our professional artistes, performers, entertainers had their start at The Bowl.

We would like to remind the Prime Minister and the Minister / Ministry / of Arts and Mulitculturalism that Naparima Bowl was given to the people as an Independence Gift specifically for the purpose of being a centre for the Arts, so constitutionally that gift cannot be taken away.

We, the undersigned, appeal to the Prime Minister and the Minister / Ministry / of Arts and Mulitculturalism, and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, to reconsider any plans to discontinue the use of the Naparima Bowl as a centre for the Performing Arts.
