The Continuing Translation of Namco's 'Tales of' Game Series

We, the fans of Namco's 'Tales of' RPG series, would like to request that Namco publish their recent PS2 game 'Tales of Destiny 2' in English and sell it in English-speaking countries outside of Japan. We are aware that Namco has already published a PS1 game already titled 'Tales of Destiny 2' in the U.S., which was originally 'Tales of Eternia' in Japanese. While an excellent game in its own right, its main weakness was bad English dubbing.

Most English-speaking fans of the 'Tales of' series appreciate more the original Japanese voices used in the games, as in the first Tales of Destiny. However, it has been Namco's practice to remove certain features from the Americanized Tales games that relied extensively on the original Japanese voice acting, such as the spontaneous world map conversations between the characters. As gamers, we believe and know that these tactics adversely affect the games' overall quality and sales.

In light of this, we want Namco to translate and release 'Tales of Destiny 2' for the PS2 with only the main text translated, leaving all of the original sounds, music and voices intact; as well as with English subtitles for Japanese conversation that may take place. For the sake of continuity, we will not mind if it is entitled 'Tales of Destiny 3', as long as it retains the aforementioned characteristics and features. If Namco plans to release it with English dubbing, please also give players the option to switch between the English and Japanese voices/sounds, like a dual-language DVD.

Additionally, we would like to request that Namco make a similar effort to release the other 'Tales of' games that currently sell exclusively in Japan: namely, Tales of Phantasia for the PS1 and the 'Tales of' games for the Gameboy Advance. Doing so will solidify the popularity and widen the availability of Namco's long-running RPG series, giving it enough clout to challenge favorites such as Square/Enix's Final Fantasy series. Most importantly, such moves will show that Namco is serious about making the 'Tales of' series truly commercially viable, not just in Japan but worldwide.

We sincerely hope that you will take prompt, appropriate and immediate action upon our proposals, and make the gaming world a better, more enjoyable and profitable place for all parties concerned.
