Tea Party 2000 |
To: U.S. Congress, State CongressMost of us are now virtually in a state of taxation without representation. Our choices in state and federal elections are so limited, the term 'Democracy' must be replaced with 'Aristocracy' because moneyed interests get most of the access to ‘our’ political representatives.
This petition involves a clear demand upon state and federal governments that says “we the people are fed up with the two-party system and it’s blatant submission to the dollar.” Our ultimatum is clear and simple: in state and federal elections, if at least 10% of the voters register under any party’s name, that party runs a candidate on equal footing with any others whose party received at least 10%. This means free and equal airtime for all qualified candidates. Debates must include all candidates, as well. So your first vote is cast when you register under a particular party’s name, but if you don’t like the candidate that your party chooses, you can still vote for someone else.
It is not in the interest of either the Republicans or Democrats to relinquish their duopoly of power in this country. They will only allow minor concessions unless we do something.
Sincerely,
