En faveur du train à vapeur Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield / In Support of the Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield Steam Train

Considérant que depuis 15 ans le train à vapeur Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield a prouvé sans l’ombre d’un doute qu’il est un moteur de l’économie et un atout majeur pour l’Outaouais :

- Le train à vapeur attire 55 000 touristes qui dépensent plus que 10 millions $ chaque année dans la région;
- Le train attire des tour-opérateurs, crée de l’investissement économique, des emplois et des revenus de taxes et d’impôts;
- Le train attire touristes et visiteurs dans les commerces de Wakefield et dans les hôtels et les restaurants de Gatineau;
- Son emprise fournit un accès aux berges de la rivière Gatineau à Chelsea pour les randonneurs en été et les skieurs en hiver;

Considérant que le train à vapeur est devenu un emblème unique pour la région et que le tourisme dans la région a baissé d’environ 40% depuis la fermeture de la ligne;

Nous, sous-signé-e-s, citoyen-ne-s de la région de l’Outaouais demandons aux politiciens des gouvernements municipaux, provincial et fédéral de travailler ensemble de toute urgence afin d’assurer le retour sur les rails du train à vapeur aussi rapidement que possible, dans des conditions adéquates afin d’assurer sa pérennité en tant qu’opération touristique efficace, et ce, immédiatement pour l’ ÉTÉ 2008.

Whereas for the past 15 years, the Hull Chelsea Wakefield Steam Train has proven beyond doubt that it is a motor of the economy and a major benefit to the Outaouais:

- The Steam Train brings 55,000 tourists who spend more than $10,000,000 annually in our region
- It provides package tours, investment, employment and tax revenue.
- The train brings tourists and visitors to the businesses of Wakefield.
- It supports the hotels, restaurants and tourist businesses of Gatineau.
- At no cost, the Steam Train right-of-way provides access to the Chelsea river front for walking in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Wheras the Steam Train has become a charming and historical emblem of the region and tourist business is down as much as 40% in the Outaouais without the train.

We, the undersigned citizens of the Outaouais urgently request the municipal, provincial and federal politicians of our region to work together to ensure that the Steam Train is put back on the tracks as quickly as possible with all the conditions necessary to ensure that it continues as a long term, effective, tourist operation, re-starting train service during this SUMMER of 2008.
