Change Viz's Naruto Translations.

We, the undersigned, ask that Viz Communications change all their Naruto translations such that the original salutations and skill (jutsu) names remain the same.

After reading the chapters that have been published in Shonen Jump so far, we have decided that by translating the salutations and skill names (see examples) the mysteriousness and essence of the manga has been lost. Instead of changing the originals, they can have footnotes on the bottom of the page the first time the skill shows up. This way the fans who are not familiar with the terms can understand them.

Viz Communications has had many good translations so far but the Naruto translations were quite disappointing. We feel that by keeping the salutations and skill names in there original forms, this can be resolved.

Examples of changes:
1) The term ‘Sensei’ should not be translated into ‘Teacher’ or ‘Master’.
- ‘Iruka Sensei’ or ‘Kakashi Sensei’ should not become ‘Master Iruka’ or ‘Master Kakashi’

2) The salutation ‘Sama’ should not be translated into ‘Lord’
- ‘Hokage Sama’ should not become ‘Lord Hokage’.

3) The jutsu names should remain in their original form
- ‘Kage Bunshin no Jutsu’ should not be translated into ‘The Art of the Doppelganger’.

4) The Ninja level names should not be changed. - ‘Jounin’ should not be translated into ‘Superior Shinobi Leader’.

We know that it would be impossible to make changes to the Naruto chapters that have been published in Shonen Jump so far, but sincerely request that these changes be made in the graphic novels when they are published.
