Correction - Finance & General Purposes Committee

To:  The Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago

We members of the concerned population call on you to show that Trinidad and Tobago IS a maturing democracy. A place where government cannot expect to take the public’s opinion for granted, without consequences, as has been the case in the pass.

“WHO VEX VEX”

Mr. Manning you have successfully demonstrated by standing down Mr. Valley, Mr. Rahael, Ms. Seukeran, Mr. Hart, and others that the approval of large sections of the electorate counts for nothing for an elected Member of Parliament on the government bench.

As things stand members of cabinet owe their position directly to the approval of our PM; as do the majority of the Senate appointments.
This makes the PM, in governance terms, more powerful than the President of the USA! Moreover, you could remain in office until your death.
We the citizens have little leverage.
(Arguably, at least in part, as this same kind of thinking contributes to the weakening of the main opposition.)

“PLAIN TALK/BAD MANNERS”

We intend to present to your office 100,000 signatures by way of this petition. Representing persons who support the idea that if we believe something is wrong: “We aren’t washing out our mouths to say so”; and,
The right way to go about saying so IS in a private meeting of our peers.


“BUFF THE TATTLETALE INSTEAD”

The persons signing this petition agree that the reasons put forward by our PM for removal of a senior Cabinet Minister are without enough merit to ‘FIRE’ an MP in the circumstances described and that you reinstate Dr. Rowley to the Cabinet and Finance & General Services Committee.

“ESTEEMED ROTTWEILER”

This petition affirms that Dr. Rowley is one of the few, experienced, and effective Ministers respected by his constituents, the public, and all parties in the house.

HERE NOW IS ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR DEMOCRACY.
