In mid-2009, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. (SCE) released a new model of home computer entertainment system, dubbed the "PS3 Slim". For end-users, this new model sports an improved hardware and reduced price, but, on the other hand, support for HDD installation feature of the Linux Operating System has been discontinued. SCE's word as to why a capped feature is that Linux running on PS3 would require the costly update of a legacy "hypervisor" in order to restrict direct access to certain parts of the PS3 Slim system.

We believe the time has come to SCE drop such restrictions altogether and make Linux avaliable to all PS3 Slim end-users via an official firmware update, without the need of modifying the hardware manually which would incur in extra costs, time and effort for many enthusiasts. I hereby wait for appreciation of key Sony executives and personnel on behalf of the following signataries.
