Maintain Funding for Union Square Main Streets

To:  Somerville Board of Aldermen

I ask your help in maintaining funding for Union Square Main Streets.

For the past four years Union Square Main Streets in Somerville, MA has been working with residents and businesses to improve the neighborhood. In that time that organization has made a positive impact and has greatly contributed to the vibrancy of Union Square.

A partial list of achievements includes the launch of the Union Square Farmers Market, the successful recruitment of small businesses, the creation of training and support programs for the community, community planning and advocacy, as well as participation in the Somerville Arts Council’s ArtsUnion initiative.

Given the tough financial problems facing the city, the organization's funding, and as result its work, is in jeopardy. We respectfully request the City of Somerville to not cut funding to Union Square Main Streets and to continue its support of this important community organization.
