Help unite legal immigrants with their spouse and small children |
To: The U.S. CongressWe, the undersigned, request you, the honorable Senators and Representatives of the United States, to introduce and support legislation to unite legal immigrants with their spouses and small children.
Under current law, a Green Card holder is allowed to apply for an immigrant visa on behalf of his/her foreign resident spouse and unmarried, minor children. However, the it takes over 5 years to complete this process, during which time the beneficiaries are forced to live outside the U.S. While waiting, spouses and children are not allowed to enter the U.S., even for a brief visit. The Green Card holder, on the other hand, must reside predominantly in the U.S or risk violating the law.
We request you to create a mechanism under which spouses and children of legal immigrants can live in the United States. Spouses and children of all temporary visa holders (such as H1, F1, L1) are allowed to enter and live in the U.S. without any delay. We urge you to end this discriminatory nature of immigration law and treat legal immigrants fairly and impartially. We request you to uphold American family values and help save families of hardworking, taxpaying, law-abiding legal immigrants.
Sincerely,
