Dropship: United Peace Force sequel |
To: Sony Computer Entertainment EuropeBack in 2002, Dropship: United Peace Force was released for the PlayStation 2. Set in the year 2050, you play the part of brave pilot Bravo Two.
This game should have been revolutionary - the flight model was perfect, the gameplay was genius, not to mention the actual concept of the game itself.
Set in a world fraught with conflict, it is unnervingly realistic in it's storytelling - you truly feel as if you are far away, fighting these high-tech military battles against terrorist organizations, eerily like the current events in Iraq and Afghanistan. It all feels very political, and extremely realistic.
This game should have recieved far more recognition. Unfortunately, it didn't sell well enough to justify a sequel. However, with the advanced technology of the PlayStation 3, a sequel would be a good idea.
The PlayStation 3 is too god NOT to see a Dropship sequel. Beautiful, hyper-real graphics, more realistic explosions, aircraft disintergrating in real time and photo-real cutscenes, but retaining the physcics and flight models or the earlier game, and continuing the story.
The more advanced technology of the new console could mean the developers could do amazing things. You could go into a mission with a gleaming new Dropship, and come out of the missions with it covered in exhaust grime, burn marks, burns from explosions, and general grot and grime, not to mention visual exterior damage, and possibly missing parts.
Therefore, we petition that Sony Computer Entertainment release a sequel to Dropship. Dropship truly has the potential to be a great game, up there with the likes of the Ace Combat series.
Also - if Sony does decide to answer our petition, and start creating a sequel - we wish that the Defender class D-15 "Tempest" dropship be brought back into service, after it's failings in the mission "Wish You Were Here" in the first game. It is by far the most beautiful ship in the game, and I was saddened to see it retired and replaced so early in the game.
The taxpayers' money the UPF spent on all those Mark 2s could have been better spent updating the original Defender with better technology, so it wouldn't go wrong in the first place...!
Please, Sony, we're getting really bored of playing all the same missions over and over again, spectacular as they are.Sincerely,
