The A9 is the main trunk road connecting the Highlands of Scotland to the Central Belt and the Motorway System of Great Britain. Unfortunately the Scottish Executive has not committed to upgrade this road to Dual Carriageway between Perth and Inverness.

The current piecemeal condition of dual carriageway interspersed with long stretches of single carriageway is unacceptable. There are few places for overtaking safely and the recent introduction of "guaranteed overtaking zones" is nothing more than a temporary compromise that can only lead to confusion and further accidents.

The Scottish Executive must commit to upgrade the A9 to Dual Carriageway in its entirety. This will allow the promotion of business and tourism in the Highlands of Scotland whilst preventing accidents caused by driver frustration.
