Request for Senator Clinton to Step Aside

To the Honorable Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY):

We, the undersigned, being registered Democrats and/or supporters of the Democratic Party, do hereby request that you abandon your bid to secure the nomination of our Party for the office of President of the United States.

Your campaign to date has been nothing short of historic, as the first legitimate female candidate of a major United States political party for the office of President. We applaud your efforts and your tireless commitment to the higher goal of making our United States a better place to live in the next four years and beyond.

However, given the current status of the race, we believe that it is in the best interests of the Party that you step aside and support the Honorable Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.

It has become evident that it is the will of the people that he should become the Party’s nominee for the office of President of the United States, based on the popular vote to date during the primary campaign. Senator Obama has the overwhelming support of the younger generation, which we believe will be the age group that will make a profound difference in this election. Your campaign has the support of the older generation, particularly those above the age of 50. It is our belief that if you step aside and support Senator Obama, these two key age demographics can combine and lead to the unification of the Democratic Party against the Republican Party and their nominee, the Honorable Senator John McCain of Arizona. We also believe that your financial resources, should you accept a position on the Democratic ticket as Vice President – which would still be history-making event in itself – can greatly assist the election of Senator Obama to the White House in November.

We, the undersigned, thank you for your efforts to date and thank you for making this election one of the most historic to date. However, for the greater good of the Democratic Party and these United States, we ask that you step aside at this time.
