WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, support the immediate formal adoption of a University of Illinois Vendor Code of Conduct (VCC) to increase ethical governance in University decision-making and actions with external institutions;

WHEREAS, the University of Illinois was created as land-grant university with a mission to provide fair opportunities to all citizens;

WHEREAS, human rights is a core value of the University;

WHEREAS, the VCC committee was formed to strengthen institutional social responsibility by reviewing procurement policies concerning collegiate licensing, purchasing, and business dealings;

WHEREAS, the VCC committee was assigned to create a governing policy document and recommendations to ensure that supplier relationships align with ethical business practices;

WHEREAS, the VCC upholds socially just standards of nondiscrimination, equal employment opportunity, freedom of association and collective bargaining, fair minimum wages and benefits, banning forced labor, adequate overtime compensation, health and safety, employee dignity and respect, womens rights, limits on child labor, and environmental protection;

WHEREAS, the VCC committee submitted there final governing document to the University of Illinois President to be considered for adoption on March 12, 2008;

WHEREAS, the VCC committee made the recommendation of a follow-up committee to work on issues of compliance and enforcement of the VCC;

WHEREAS, to date, the University of Illinois President has not formally adopted the VCC, made the document publicly available, or created a follow-up committee to help implement the VCC;

WE STAND RESOLVED THAT, the University of Illinois President should immediately adopt the VCC. This adoption should be done publicly and the University community should be notified in advance;

LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the University of Illinois should send out a mass mail to the entire University community detailing the signing of the VCC and outlining its importance for the vision of ethical governance of University;

LASTLY LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT, the University of Illinois will immediately organize a University-wide committee to help with enforcement of the VCC.
