Protest against Deonar Slaghuter House

To:  Animal Lovers

We hereby would request the people to join hands with us in saving animals from being slaughtered at Deonar Slaughter house. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation is planning to modernize & upgrade the existing slaughter house in Deonar at an whooping cost of 125 crores ( this figure will definitely go high ). The corporation is estimated to slaughter 36 Lac animals a year and the figure may increase with modernization. After studying the various aspects of this proposal our finding are as under :

1. When the slaughter house was shifted in 1971 from Bandra to Deonar, the objective was to provide hygenic meat for the people of Mumbai only. But, the current situation is more than 75% of the meat is exported to Arab countries. We strongly protest this act of feeding arab countries at the cost of our animal stock.

2. Further, it was also resolved that only physically unfit animals will be slaughtered. But animals from U.P., BIhar, M.P. and other parts of the countries are being trapped from the farmers and killed in this slaughtered house. This is causing a major downfall in our animal stock and also, leading to suicide of farmers in big numbers. It has been a proven fact that the earthquake in Latur was an outcome of the outcry of such animals slaughtered in the Doenar Slaughter House.

3. The slaughter house is consuming more than 18 lac litres of water for cleaning and maintenance, while mumbaikars are facing water crises. Such slaughtering practices are also leading to widespread diseases and sickness amongst the mumbaikars.

4. The prices of the milk & other milk products may hike upto Rs. 50/- per ltr and other unwanted parts of the animals will be mixed in other vegetarian food products. The drainage system of the mumbai might fail due to heavy waste materials of the animals.

This is an appeal not only to the vegetarians but also to other general public of this country to strongly oppose this modernization plan of the Corporation by signing this online petition for the animals.

We also request each and everyone to forward this petition to as many people as possible and collect the signatures in large numbers.
