"Weird Al" Yankovic should absolutely be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!! Not only do rock musicians know they've really "made it" when "Weird Al" parodies their song, but his videos have been as groundbreaking as any artist's. He's been a major presence on M-TV for decades. The rock subgenre we call comedy rock was stale and weak until "Weird Al" came onto the scene, but he not only saved the genre, he made it relevant to new generations of rock fans. He is indisputably the Elvis, the very Beatles of comedy rock. No other artist in the genre can come close in terms of popularity, sales, or influence. He's as likely as any other rock artist to be honored with rock awards (In 1996, the American Music Awards introduced him as "rock and roll's class clown," and anyone who truly loves rock and roll knows that humor and irreverence are necessary components of the art form.) Blues is also only a subgenre of rock and roll, but if there were one guy who dominated blues the way "Weird Al" Yankovic dominates comedy rock, he'd be inducted in a heartbeat. We demand that Al Yankovic be given his due as the greatest artist in the history of his genre! Induct "Weird Al" Yankovic into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005!
