WILLIAM & GABRIELLA GORGAS- AUSTRALIA - PARENTAL ABDUCTION


George Gorgas (Australian) and Julia Nascimento Egg (Brazilian) got married on 06 MAY 2000 in NSW AUSTRALIA.
They separated in June 2005 and divorced 22nd December 2006
They have two children William born 26/02/2002 and Gabriella Gorgas born 21/06/2004 in Sydney NSW Australia
George & Julia had joint shared care for the children however they lived with Julia and George had access rights every second weekend.
On 4th February 2007 at 9:05 pm Julia called George from Brazil to inform him that she was in Brazil with the children and was going to live in Brasilia from now on. William was to start school the next day and George had been looking forward to taking him as arranged, your Childs first day at school is something you never want to miss.

George allowed the children to travel to Brazil for 6 weeks per year through court orders; this was done so the children got to spend time with Julia's family in Brazil, which George thought was very fair. George did not have any knowledge or allow the children to travel when they were abducted. Julia was under Australian Family Court Orders to give 14 days written notice to George each year prior to the children travelling to Brazil. This did not happen!

On the 7th February 2007 George lodged an application under the Hague Convention on the civil aspects of International Child Abduction

In July of 2008 there was finally a conciliation hearing set in Brazil, in this hearing Julia admitted taking the children illegally as she knew no court in Australia would let her. The judge has still not reached a decision on whether the children should be returned and it is now two years since the original Hague application was made.
Unfortunately there are some countries that while part of the Hague Convention choose not to comply, in most other countries the time frame for returning children is 6 weeks (approx). Why it is then that Brazil chooses to ignore this??
This case has been going for 2 years and the children are still no closer to being returned, everyday William & Gabriella grow taller, learn a new skill and do those things that children do and their father misses out on all of it. If it had been the other way round and George had kidnapped the children this would have been prime time news and he would have been arrested and the children returned, why is it that there is such double standards.
Child abduction by either parent is wrong, you both decided to have children those children to deserve to have both parents. We need help to bring William and Gabriella home.

Being a parent is a wonderful thing; imagine not being able to enjoy this basic right.
