To:  Board of Directors for Hewlett-Packard

Marc Hurd (Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, President of Hewlett-Packard Company (HP)) and the associated Board of Directors; Lawrence T. Babbio Jr, Sari M. Baldauf, Richard A. Hackborn, John H. Hammergren, Robert L. Ryan, Lucille S. Salhany and G. Kennedy Thompson.

3000 Hanover Street, MS 1050
Palo Alto, CA 94304

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has long been recognised as an innovative and customer led company whose products can be found in homes the world over. The announcement in 2001 saw Compaq and HP merge bringing the IPAQ handheld computers under the HP brand. The most recent flagship IPAQ is the Windows Mobile Powered device series hw6900 (hw6910, hw6915, hw6945, etc) which retailed new at close to $600 in the US and still asks a hefty price tag of £450+ in the UK.

News recently came from HP that the hw6900 series IPAQ handheld computers will not be receiving an update from the factory installed Windows Mobile 5 (WM5) to the recently released Windows Mobile 6 (WM6). This makes these modern, expensive devices become obsolete a little after a year since they were released, all due to the lack of support from HP.

We the undersigned agree that after spending such a sum of money on these devices to have them outdated simply due to the lack of willingness to support them from Hewlett-Packard is a show of utter disregard of their consumer base.

To restore faith in Hewlett-Packard and to get the device support commanded by the retail price tag, we petition that WM6 is made an available update to the hw6900 series handheld computer.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
