Support Infinity Ward with IWNet servers. |
To: All gamersThis petition is to support Infinity Ward's decision to implement a new matchmaking server system and remove dedicated servers from Modern Warfare 2.
Reasons for which are as follows:
Dedicated servers massively increase the prevelance of piracy, making it easy and undetectable, which is one of the reasons the petition has proven so popular - people want to play the game online for free. If you take a game like Crysis as an example, official sales on PC were 86,000 in its opening month in the US, whereas it has been pirated over 1,000,000 times. How many of the 120,000+ MW2 petitioners do you think are willing to pay for the game?
The new system implemented by Infinity Ward is the natural progression for online gaming across all pltforms, not just PC, making for a smoother, more effective, more manageable online experience.
Infinity Ward are one of the best developers in the world and have always had an incredibly supportive attitude towards their community. Why are people not giving them the benefit of the doubt? They've certainly earnt it.
Ultimately, I think gamers are becoming increasingly frustrated with the state of PC gaming, what with petitions flying around for MW2, StarCraft 2, and many more. The truth is though, the PC gaming community has nobody to blame but itself... Piracy is so rampant that developers are ignoring PC as a viable revenue-generating platform altogether, and the immediate anger from any PC community at the slightest hint of change is both childish and petulant. It needs to grow up and start supporting the people that create these incredible games and at least wait until you've had a chance to experience the changes they're suggesting before denouncing them as intollerable and unacceptable.
Sincerely,
