Let's Rebuild the World Trade Center and Twin Towers!!

The towers were 110 stories, let's make them 111 - and designate the ground floors as memorials listing the names of all the victims and heroes involved.

Based on the sentiments of some of the rescue workers at Ground Zero which were expressed on the news, and the ideas of many New Yorkers, a petition is being starting to rebuild the Twin Towers. We are all heartbroken by the events of September 11, 2001 - but we believe those who lost their lives would want something positive to come out of it so that their loss was not in vain. Let's show the world, especially terrorists, that we will not be beaten -- they can knock us down, but like the phoenix, the towers will rise again from the ashes.

It will be an expensive project - but they were erected once, and it can be done again. The money will come from donations - from corporations, U.S. citizens, our friends around the world. The Statue of Liberty was erected with pennies from children. It can be done!! There have already been offers of donations from Italy for the purpose of rebuilding one of the towers.

Both New York's senior senator Charles Schumer and the leaseholder of the Twin Towers, Larry Silverstein, have supported the idea of rebuilding:

"NEW YORK (AP) — New York's senior senator said Sunday the World Trade Center must be rebuilt and should include a memorial for those killed in the terrorist attack in lower Manhattan. "We must build something grand there," Sen. Charles Schumer said in an appearance on CBS' Face The Nation." - USA Today, 9/18/2001

"It would be the tragedy of tragedies not to rebuild this part of New York,” said Larry Silverstein, who closed on the $3.2 billion deal with his partner Westfield America Inc. in late July. “It would give the terrorists the victory they seek,” Mr. Silverstein said in an interview from his Fifth Avenue office." - The Wall Street Journal, 9/14/2001
