Whereas, the World Youth Day celebration is a Catholic event for the propagation of Catholic ideals among the youth of the World; and
Whereas, the aforesaid celebration is presided over by the Roman Pontiff himself; and
Whereas, the institution of the Papacy as the visible and spiritual head of the Catholic Church is cosidered a Dogma divinely revealed and to be held by all Catholics; and
Whereas, the Catholic belief that the Papacy is divinely instituted by Christ Himself to act as His Vicar on Earth is inseparable from the aforesaid Dogma; and
Whereas, the Argentinian rock group "Rescate" is slated to perform at the 2005 celebration of World Youth Day in Cologne; and
Whereas, the aforesaid rock group has publicly made comments which defames the Papal Office and the Roman Pontiff himself, believeing that the purpose of the Papacy is "more political than spiritual", and
Whereas, the aforesaid group "does not believe that the Pope is God's representative on Earth"; and
Whereas, the sentiments of "Rescate" are deeply offensive to devout Catholics, insulting to the Pope, and unfaithful to the Magisterium of the Church; and
Whereas, if "Rescate" is allowed to perform at World Youth Day, the wrong messages about Catholicism would be in danger of spreading throughout the Catholic youth of the World; and
Whereas, the views of the aforesaid band are in direct contrast to the Catholic Faith;
be it Resolved that we, the undersigned, firmly oppose the presence of the Argentinian band "Rescate" at the 2005 World Youth Day celebrations in Cologne, and we request that they be removed from all programs at the upcoming World Youth Day, and from all World Youth Days henceforth, unless they retract their offensive and insulting views against the Catholic Church.
