The purpose of this petition is to raise awareness within both Softimage and Apple of the need to have a competing high-end 3D content creation package available for the OSX operating system.
For years Alias and Softimage have represented the top of the content-creation arena for motion-picture and entertainment production. There is little doubt that the current PowerMac platform has the capability in both hardware and software to handle the rigorous demands of this field.
Alias has released Maya for OSX and we are very happy and grateful that they are in this space, but we feel that to remain a healthy competitor in the CG arena there must be a further driving force... namely competition from the software vendors.
It is for this reason that we ask all interested parties to participate in out petition to ask Softimage to port XSI to the OSX platform. This would represent a substantial gain to Softimage in their user base as well as a boost to the 3D and gaming field on the Macintosh.
