To:  President Bush, U.S. Department of Education

YAK

Youth Against Killing

As a response to the alleged educational program of providing students at a high school the opportunity to attend and witness a veterinarian surgically open and display the live functioning digestive process of a shelter dog in order to observe how the digestive system of the dog worked before it was then euthanized, (full story can be seen at: http://www.local6.com/news/4480144/detail.html )

the following signers hereby petition the President and the United States Government Department of Education to officially declare the date this activity was posted on the Internet, May 12, 2005, as YOUTH AGAINST KILLING ("YAK") Day to be used by any school in America, at their discretion, to provide their students with a school sponsored field trip to tour a local humane shelter, dog pound or other such animal rescue facility of their choice and the opportunity for students to speak out via peaceful demonstrations, essay writings for extra school credit/grades, etc., against the killing of pets for alleged education, social convenience or entertainment purposes in order to promote the "sanctity of all life".

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
