To:  Government of Fukuoka City, Japan

Dear City Government of Fukuoka,

As it stands, your current laws prevent the opening of both new yatai enterprises and the transference of existing yatai operations from one owner to another, should current owners elect to retire or find themselves otherwise unable to continue operation of their business.

It is our understanding that you intend for the gradual extinction of the yatai, and that you consider them to be unsanitary and a blight on Fukuoka's civic image.

Yet, many will contend that the yatai of Fukuoka are cultural landmarks, and an important part of the heritage and character of your beautiful city. They serve delicious food that people from all over Japan and the world appreciate and enjoy, and it would be a shame for that tradition to be lost.

We humbly ask that you reconsider your current ordinances and remove the aforementioned restrictions on future yatai operation, in order to insure that generations to come may continue to enjoy this uniquely treasured cultural aspect of Fukuoka City.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
