Ever since June 2nd, 1977, a computer game series known simply as Zork has been a game series that, despite its apparently permanant status as a game that merely has a cult following, has acheived the rank of the best-selling computer game series of all time.
When the company that created Zork, Infocom, was eventually purchased by Activision, Zork's future seemed bleak. After the game Zork Zero, made in 1989, there was a wait of five years before Return To Zork was released (a stunning game that was on the cutting edge of technology).
Not much time passed before Activision seemed to get the right idea, and two games quickly came out in rapid succession: Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor (along with the short promotional game Zork: The Undiscovered Underground). Activision was promising that Inquisitor would be the first part in a three part series of games, and Zork fans around the world were rejoicing!
That was 1997. Now, five years later, Zork fans have all but given up hope for the continuation of the series. Zork has always been one of the most astounding contributions to the field of computer games, from its humble beginnings as the pet project of some programmers at MIT to its current status of having lured approximately three-million players into its story lines. For its genre, Zork has always been on the cutting edge of gaming technology, and has always countered this amazing programming with excellent games that make people want to play them again and again. This petition is one more chance to try and reboot this game, so that Activision will fulfil its promise and give the games that the world deserves.
