Fight For IZ

To:  Nickelodeon

It was months ago when Invader Zim first hit the televisions, in Premieres Friday on Nick. Ever since then, a multitude of kids, teenagers, and even adults have flocked to your show, assisting in boosting your ratings over 50%. There was a long separation of time between the first five episodes, and the new ones, but still your fans stuck by your side and waited, not giving up on a show they obviously favor. They created websites, and fan fiction, drew fan art, made comics, signed your Blab! boards, and more. They were obsessed. The time finally came when the new episodes were aired, and this drew in even more fans.

Then the incident happened on 9/11.

The entire country was struck by this fear, and pain, of this event. People were depressed- even young children, who could barely perceive what was happening. They looked forward to Invader Zim more than ever- it was their source of escape; to laugh, to get their minds off the situation. But without warning, without even so much as a message explaining why, Zim was pulled off the air that Friday. And then that Sunday. And, as a further blow, the four hour marathon the following week was cancelled.

The fear and hysteria that ensued this was unimaginable. Rumors spread, and because no one knew anything, they couldn't be confirmed or denied. Invader Zim was going to be cancelled. Invader Zim was going to be censored. Invader Zim was taken off air until the fear America felt from the incident died down.

Why you took Zim off that Friday was understandable. But the fact that you did not take the time to tell the fans this was irresponsible. Even more, what makes you think Invader Zim is any more violent than the other shows?

In the older cartoons, characters would blow themselves up, fall off cliffs, throw various sharp objects at another character- and that was acceptable. 'The Fairly Oddparents', the show you decided to replace Invader Zim for the time, featured an evil-obsessed alien creature that sucked humans' brains out with straws. The hypocrisy in this not needed be mentioned.

This petition was signed by Invader Zim fans who desire to achieve two things: to prevent the further censorship in Invader Zim, and to let YOU know how many of us out there love the show. The petition, however, does not even touch the amount of people that are obsessed- it comes from one little website, from fans who want nothing more than to preserve the enjoyable show you have today, and continue the seasons, hopefully, for a long, long time.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
